Plaid Stallions Amsco Planet of the Apes Adventure Set

Amsco famously made these killer adventure sets for properties like Space:1999, The Walton's and most famously Marvel Superheroes.

I was gifted this Planet of the Apes set a couple of years ago but never put it together, so in honour of Apes week, I sat on my office floor and did just that.

You know what? It's awesome and loaded with tons of easter eggs from the movies and tv series. I love it! Check it out after the jump.

First it comes with the spaceship I've been obsessed with for like 35 years.

And it comes with tons of characters.

    Seriously, even human slaves?

What's this? It's the set from the episode "The Trap", only my favourite one.

It's hard to see but here is a little Easter egg.

Oh and what's in here? Only the Alpha/Omega bomb, things are going to get dark for Virdon and Burke,,,,,

The humans even have a shelter and what do they have a view of?

    Booyah!

Renacting the pilot episode, i need to work on my James Naughton voice.

I miss the days when we thought computers looked like this and didn't exactly know what they did.

I have never seen this set fully assembled, only partial shots like on ebay. I did find some good flat shots of the space ship I could print out and assemble. I also enlarged it to fit 3.75 inch figures.

Wow, that looks like a lot of fun! Great pics too!

You know, with all this push for kid craft projects nowadays, I think something like this may have a chance of going over with today's kids. I know there are lots of paper craft "toys" out there (characters, cars, esp. Batman-related), but a full-blown playset like this would be nice to see again.

That playset is awesome. I wonder if the 3.75" Planet of the Apes figures that Super7 is working on would look good in there, or is the scale too far off?

It's about time that beautiful assemblage was put together! One of the best Apes-collector days ever… breaking out minty new Amsco and enjoying every moment it! Of course, I also recommend this activity with all playsets. Go Ape!

That is an amazing playset. That is a true treasure.

The spaceship caught my attention right away, and I'm very pleasantly surprised that it has the BtPotA rocket.

Thanks for posting all that. It is wonderful.

And, it is always best to hide the zoo posters before any Apes arrive on the scene.

This is an item I'd never really liked, but it's fantastic to see it assembled. Your enthusiasm is infectious--am I wrong to want the Walton's set now?
WANTED: NM or boxed Fonzie jalopy; POTA Fortress signal-flasher--top portion; vintage Galahad box; Tin Man YBR box; minty Wolfman tights; Black Knight sword; minty POTA stallion reins (brown); Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 brown body; POTA knife; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes.

Too far off, needs to be larger. I don't remember by how much but if you have the height of the cardboard figure, it is easy to calculate.
