    New Mego Thundarr Discovery

The never produced Mego Thundarr the Barbarian toy line is usually in the top five of Mego fans wish lists along with “Logan’s Run“, “Ark 2” and the “Greatest American Hero” lines (Not many people mourn “Dallas” sorry). So we at the Mego Museum love any information about Thundarr we can get. That is why…

Neat-o. I would have really loved a Thundarr line. Didn't Remco try to get the license too?
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Yeah, they advertised having it and even put it in catalogs and trade pubs. It was really late though, like '84 and i bet the whole KO MOTU thing kind of petered out by then for Remco.

They never revealed any prototypes either.

That is all kinds of awesome. Thundarr had Alex Toth, Steve Gerber and of course Kirby. Quite a pedigree.

I think Thundarr came back on Saturday mornings in the mid-80s, so that might account for Remco trying a toyline then.

I didn't know that, I wasn't big on getting up early in the mid 1980s, unless it was for work.

BTW: How close did Mego get to D&D license before losing to LJN? Any info on how they planned on doing the line?

I'm going to say it was all negotiation. If they had it, they'd have probably done some 3 3/4" figures.

21 new eps on ABC '80-'82. Recycled on NBC '83-'84. It may have aired on Cartoon Express. The timeline of Ruby-Spears joining HB is right.

That is cool! I hope there are a couple of prototypes out there that we'll get to see one day. Thundarr was one of my favorites back in the day. I remember getting the couch accessory off the vacuum cleaner to use as a sun sword.
