If the clothes make the man...they must also make the villain!

From 1979 into 1980 Marvel Comics Group published a monthly puzzle book with quizzes, games, riddles and mazes using Marvel characters all conceptualized and drawn by artist Owen McCarron entitled Marvel Fun and Games.

In issue #2 he included the following “puzzle” which reads:

This gent doesn't care much for superheroes. Were the truth be known he positively detests them... so much so that he plans to beat up on all of them. But to do that he feels he must have a costume. Because he reads every Marvel mag he knows that many of the baddies individually have come close so if he were to take bits and pieces of a number of their costumes that should do the trick. Applaud him now. This may be the last time he ever hears anything. At any rate tell us who owns the pieces of costume which decorate his soon-to-be limp frame.

I first saw this “Villain Without a Name” when I purchased the Marvel Fun and Games #2 from comicbookgeek at Mego Meet 2016 and I just had to make him. And, I got the bright idea to have a contest at Mego Meet 2017 to see who else may know who he is or where he was from (because I sure as heck had no idea!)

He is actually comprised of the following fourteen Marvel villains: Dr. Doom; Kraven; Rhino; Psyklop; Jester; Cap'n Barracuda; Kronus; Sandman; Juggernaut; Shocker; Scorpion; Dr. Octopus; Ringmaster; and Devastator.

    Here is the "answer key"...

And, here is how I made him...

Dr. Doom glove from Drmego.com; Dr. Octopus tentacle from a Toy Biz Doc Ock action figure; Ringmaster and Devastator boots from Castaway Toys (the Devastator boot was made by cobbling a red lego with a yellow CAT boot); Ringmaster boot stars, Sandman belt and Kronus chest emblem were all designed by me and made into die-cut stickers by Lasermego.com; the head is cobbled together using a resculpted Reverse Flash head as a base, a Rhino horn, and the bug eye from a Kamen Rider figure for Psyklop; the left arm is from CTVT with bands attached for Juggernaut; the suit was designed and printed by me using the original Mego Iron Man pattern accounting for Kraven, Shocker, Scorpion, and Cap'n Barracuda. And, it was sewn together by Jessica Rotich as only she can so gracefully sew; the Jester collar was designed and added by your's truly with little “jingle bells” found at JoAnn's attached.

And, here I present to you, a character who will be known henceforth as...AMALGAM!

Here he is making his debut at Mego Meet 2017...

Here he is side-by-side with the original Owen McCarron art...

    Some work in progress pictures...

And the winner of the Name that Villain Contest at Mego Meet 2017 is none other than...MegoMike aka Mike Desens. Mike named the most characters associated with Amalgam (9 of the 14) and his other answers were very close to the era and artist who created him. Congratulations Mike you win $100 in custom merchandise from my Facebook page.

I hope you all enjoy my customs as much as I do, and, as always, thanks for looking!

Peace, Love, and Obscure Villain Custom Megos!

    Austin

PS My wife came up with the name Amalgam. I think I married the right woman.

Was wondering if you'd ever do that guy(s?) Its tops on the obscurity list and just really seemed right up your alley. Great job pulling that off.

Awesome! I had no idea who he was, but it was fun trying to guess the villians that made him up.

              Thanks for the fun contest.

The sad thing is that even though you sent me "in-progress" shots of this figure, I still couldn't remember who it was

                            This guy is absolutely awesome

                            Matt

It was also really cool to see the Wizard of Oz super-friends in the flesh
Warm up?! We may as well sit around this cigarette!
