    Propane or Charcoal ?

I guess today is as good as any day to ask the ultimate question.

I'm a Charcoal guy for sure.

Propane. It's just too easy! Although I prefer the taste of charcoal

I use both. although primarily propane for convenience sake. however, invariably when we are having a party, the propane side has a grease fire and I end up having to move over to the charcoal side

I'm a propane convert for the last nearly 20 years. So much easier to control temperature. I still do charcoal sometimes for large parties, like the annual community 4th of July party where we cook for about 200 people or so. But, given my druthers, I'd rather work on a propane grill, especially when I'm just cooking for myself, the better half, and the kid.

Propane is, of course, faster and the temperatures easier to control, but I'm with Hector that big, red-glowing embers of wood give you the BEST flavor. Hickory, beechwood, applewood, mesquite---they're all excellent and will maintain heat for quite a while while providing your food and your taste buds flavors sensations not achievable with propane or lighter fluid and charcoal.
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Charcoal baby! Photo May 30, 6 13 28 PM.jpg Smoked these yesterday and they were fantastic. I used charcoal and mesquite wood chips for smokey flavor.

Wood or propane I haven't used charcoal since about 1999.
