    When they first meet, she's around 18 and he's in college. In the movie, Hyde-White is playing Reed at his age, (30), but Staab - whose actually older the Hyde-White (!) - is playing her as 18ish. A decade age difference in the 60's was common, but the movie was not set in the 60's.

      IMDb shows Staab as a couple years younger (born in '61, Hyde-White in '59). At the time of the film she would have been in her early thirties, playing a much younger character obviously.

        ^you're right. Got them backwards at Wiki.

        From a production view, especially on a no-budget, the acquaintance/colleague streamlines the story and cuts down on locations. It's a superfluous scene. Always felt Sue being friends with Ben was the more plausible route.
