    Tom Hardy cast as Venom...

    ...which will NOT be part of the current Spidey universe.

    Looks like Venom will exist in an alternate world.

    Anyway...holy smokes, Hardy is a GREAT actor, an A-lister in fact..what awesome casting...he will definitely erase the memory of lame TV B-actor Topher Grace of ever playing Eddie Brock...

          I'm not sure exactly how well the whole Venom thing is going to play out without being in Spider-Man's continuity since, if memory serves, the alien symbiote basically became Venom to wreak vengeance on Parker for shunning it. I guess maybe they're going to go with the Venom: Lethal Protector thing....?

              This is one of those "who asked for this?" type of things. Hardy is a great actor, and I'm sure he'll be great in it...but who wants a Venom movie with no connection to Spider-Man?
