Judge Dredd: Mega City One (TV Series)

Looks like Dredd might be heading to the small screen in due course... in the "Judge Dredd: Mega-City One" TV series.

Judge Dredd: Mega City One is taking aim at TV screens. Citizens should report to Empire for more.

2012's Dredd may not have hit the box office heights that its filmmakers hoped for, but it certainly spurred a lot of calls for a sequel. Aside from the unofficial animated follow-up, there's been no movement on the cinematic front, but the world's grumpiest law keeper is now taking aim at our TV screens as live-action series Judge Dredd: Mega City One is now in the works according to Entertainment Weekly.

While it isn't a direct continuation of the movie, it will channel the same feel, planned as an ensemble drama about Dredd and other judges policing the tough streets of the sprawling city first envisioned by creators John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra for 2000AD. There are some elements of the Dredd movie team here, though, as Rebellion bosses and producers Jason and Chris Kingsley, along with IM Global's Stuart Ford are backing this new small screen outing.

"This is one of those seminal sci-fi properties that seems to only become and more relevant with age," IM Global Television boss Mark Stern tells EW. "Not only is it a rich world with biting social commentary, but it’s also fun as hell! As a fan of the comics and both films, it’s a dream come true to be able to work with Jason and Chris in adapting this for television."

"We’re very excited to be beginning the journey to get more of Judge Dredd’s Mega-City One on the television screen,” says the Kingsleys. "Thanks to the legions of fans who have kept up pressure on social media, and a lot of background work and enthusiasm, we aim to make a big budget production that will satisfy both our vast comics audience and the even greater general screen-watching public." No network is attached to make the show yet, but we think there will be interest...

It depends what network it lands on. HBO, Showtime, and Starz...a resounding YES...heck yeah, that would rule.

    AMC...yes as well.

    TNT...maybe.

    ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX...no.

    CW...HELL NO!!!

BTW, love the 2012 Karl Urban Dredd...the Stallone one was okay. Having said that...this article states the Stallone movie was more accurate to the look of Mega City One...

I agree that the Stallone version really nailed the look of Mega-City One. The production design in that movie was great. And the character designs like Mean Machine Angel and the Hammerstein class war droid were also almost perfectly accurate to the comic.
I also like the Judge uniforms in that version.

Just a pity Stallone took off the helmet.

I think that same vanity is part of what made IRON MAN 3 so meh. RDJ's ego was so large at that point that he felt he could make an IRON MAN movie without appearing as Iron Man for over half of the film.

That same vanity can be applied to Tobey Macguire, Andrew Garfield and even Tom Hollland in all of the Spider-Man movies as they all seem to have the masks off way more than they're on, even though they signed on to play a masked character. Not quite as evident with Chris Evans in Captain America, but he still had his helmet/mask off a lot.

Oddly, with Christian Bale, he seemed quite content to leave the cowl on as much as necessary in his Batman trilogy despite the fact that it didn't look very comfy at all.
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.
