Darth Vader. The vinyl cape smell has fused with my DNA. Even though I'd seen the film, in action figure form, he could fly, because, well, he had a cape.

Followed quickly by Luke and Death Squad Commander.

Remember cracking Threepio's joints and thinking you just broke it?

I bought Han Solo, Chewbacca and the Stormtrooper the first time I saw them in February 1978. I had been saving money specifically to buy Star Wars figures the first time I saw them. I paid $1.99 for each of them.

SW was the only movie I saw as a kid where they showed a cartoon before the show. Tom and Jerry I believe. I'm sure if you put your ear to the side of my head while watching the movie you could hear the gears grinding, never the same after. We went for pizza afterwards and my brother and I played out the Jawas ambushing R2 while we waited for a table.
Can't remember which figure was first, but I do vividly remember getting a Sandperson after going to a friends birthday party. And what seemed like a wall and I do mean a WALL of 2nd series (cantina aliens) at a KB toys in the Dadeland mall.

I don't know if I saw Star Wars on opening night in my city, but it most have been close...I was 9 I think...I remember I was playing in the backyard, and my mom hollered out the door and asked me if I wanted to go to the movies that night...So either that was opening night, or it had just come out a day or two before....

But anyhoo, back on subject...I cant remember what my very first figure was...One of my earliest memories is getting the dewback and stormtrooper together on a trip to the store...

Man, I wish I could remember which I got first. I really loved the Jawas, so maybe I got one of those first. I may have been given one or more at the same time. All I know is that Greedo and the Jawas have always been my favorites.

Artoo and Vader were my first figures when they showed up at my local toy store in Ontario. Over the next few months I collected the original 12... including the vinyl cape Jawa which I remember getting during a trip to Oshawa, and which I still have.

Han solo was my first figure. My grandma on my dad's side was awesome. She actually had 2 cardbacks. One for me and one for my brother. We would go vivsit them every weekend and she would have another figure for us. She would cross it off our lists. She understood that even though one of us had a figure, to keep us from fighting over them, she would make sure we each had the figure. And she also understood how we could never have enough Stormtroopers. A motto i still live by today.

I was born in '82 so I got in on Star Wars during the "dark times." In the mid-80s my family was at a church bazaar down the street that had a huge rummage sale. We found a box containing the first, gray, GI Joe base (I was already collecting those) and my dad found a Darth Vader with saber and cape randomly on a table. I hadn't seen any of the movies so I didn't know who he was but my dad told me his name and said "Let's see if we can find some more." We did find a box of about 25 or so figures total. Later at home, I was on the living room floor looking at all the different cool figures when I picked up Lando Calrissian (Skiff Guard Disguise) and said "This looks like Billy Dee Williams." My dad and my aunt replied simultaneously "It IS Billy Dee Williams!" Still not sure how I knew who he was at that young of age.

For several weeks straight I played with my new figures inside of that Joe HQ, and my parents showed me the movies on BETA.

Back in '78 I got Luke Skywalker first, then a day or two later, I went back and got Darth Vader. I remember being un-satified with the paint job on Luke Skywalker's utility belt and Darth fader's chest panel. Using my Testor's hobby paints, I re-painted them within a week or so.

I had the mail-away Early Bird set. So, Luke, Leia, Chewie, and Artoo all showed up together. I seem to remember Leia being the first one out of the box.
