Watched a few episodes and that was enuf for me. Didn't like it at all. Not old school enuf for me. Just another cookie cutter show.

haha...I forgot about this. I remember seeing the original announcement and thought "interesting way to keep Valerie Bertinelli's return going"...and then she had nothing to do with it.

I mean, her real life was the perfect pitch as to how to reboot the show and follow her character.

Aw come on! What is wrong with Hollywood that the can't come up with original concepts??? They have to reboot old stuff in order to make money? I mean look at what happened to the Full House reboot. It was terrible. Not that I liked the original, but THIS was worst! Everybody complained that the Olson twins didn't come back, and I realized that they were the smartest ones of the cast!

What's next? A reboot of All in the Family? Oh wait! Didn't they try that with that Hauser Street show that was on back in the 90's?

Fuller House was a continuation, not a reboot.

Perhaps it was due to the fact that I grew up in Miami, surrounded by the Cuban exile experience of my friends and their families, but the reboot as hokey as it was touched me in a few episodes.

The immigration episode was heartbreaking. I had heard of the Pedro Pan program from friends, but it's still hard to hear even a fictionalized version of it.

It's a sitcom with hokey, cliche's pouring out of every pore, but what it provides is representation for a demographic that until now, only had "Que Pasa USA" to speak for them.

It deals with Hispanic culture from the get go with a continuing storyline of the eldest's daughter upcoming quinces (sweet 15th party), a mother who is a veteran dealing with the fallout of war, a grandmother who escaped Castro's Cuba as a child, and the eldest's daughter's coming out as gay... in a culture where it's still not super accepted.

I enjoyed it for what it was, and yes, I cringed at the usual "make the white guy the idiot" thing all shows of color do (see the Jeffersons for prime example.)

The only thing that bothered me was the update of the theme song by Gloria Estefan. Seriously, is she like the ONLY Cuban singer?

I was just curious because they got Norman Lear to Executive Produce this and was wondering how it held up to his other shows.

Sitting down as a family to enjoy a tv show together doesn't seem to sell anymore. Sad.

It works my house, kids love the Office, Superstore, 30 Rock and Community. We'd probably watch more but I can't stand bad writing.

I still love both M*A*S*H (in my eyes, one of the best shows ever made, comedy or otherwise) and Community. It's a matter of finding people who work well together and whose synergy makes the whole greater than the sum of its parts. Most sitcoms these days feel too forced and politically correct to allow for any spontaneity or any genuine comedy.
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.
