    Ape Oddity

Check out this Mego Planet of the Apes oddity we spied out in the wild, half brown, half green. It's like they switched bolts of fabric when this guy was being made.

Yup, legit variant… here's some of mine. Corny on the right has a green back on the tunic like the one you referenced. I love the *jester* two-tone action too!

Wow, I never knew about the "two-tone" variation... Now I have a new Cornelius/Galen variant to look for...

I love this kind of stuff. I think a lot of these were bolt changes as Brian suggests, but I would bet at the time they looked a lot closer to the same color. I have both apes and Klingons with funky fades, and I think they're some of my coolest loose figures.

the two tone look must be due to some type of weird dye bleed. maybe an improper mix or something. I can't believe that sun fade would be that perfectly balanced

Oh it wasn't for sale. It was the store owners collection.

Love seeing stuff like this, thanks for sharing.

I wonder if somewhere out there, there's a Mego Cheron with bodysuit colors reversed but the face paint is right?

I guess you could actually make one easily yourself.

                        J. has one of the coolest Apes collections with oddballs like this that I have ever seen in person.

Not to re-live the past fade vs. factory debate ad nauseam, but now having a few super clean/minty brown and a couple two-tone Chimps (as well as some extreme sun fades) I'm inclined to believe they just used some brown fabric on rare [sic] occasion, otherwise there would be (the noticeable) evidence - in the threads, near the snaps, under the shoes and inside the fabric - of fade. After all, the factory was using brown knit on several other runs over time, with their own variations. In addition, I have Soldier Apes that have mismatched vinyl and linings too. Not that the elements and chemicals can affect all of these materials, but sometimes they really are what they appear to be.
