You know they call Starbird in Germany? Supervogel!

This is the most educational segment I've ever provided.

I'm probably the only one that felt this way, I never wanted one as a child because you couldn't put a figure in it. It just really bugged me.

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I had one of these and the space station/dock and I loved it. I played with it all the time. I no longer have it, and it's probably on the top of my hit list of things I want to get again (along with a Mighty Man and Monster Maker) but I have yet to run into either since I started going to toy shows last year (I know there are a bunch of listings on ebay, but I prefer the thrill of finding/buying the toys in person).

I was going to say, if they'd managed to make that cockpit openable so it could fit a figure, they would have probably sold twice as many as they did.

Still, it was probably the coolest non-Kenner "Star Wars" toy. Since Kenner didn't make a Y-Wing (until much later of course), this was the closest thing you could get to one. And then there was that awesome all-black Star Bird...

Incidentally, "vogel" in German means "bird", so in German this is a Star Bird Superbird.

Look what happens when you aren't allowed to play with "dolls"...

I always had visions of customizing one so that it would hold a figure. I have one MIB but I haven't gotten the courage to start cutting.

My buddy had one and I was always jelly.

I always thought the concept would be great with toy WW2 airplanes

The Starbird was a pretty cool design.

Someone had one in a box at Super Toy Con.

Nope, I totally agree with you on this.

I didn't know they made a station for this too, it looks huge!

Hmmm, so what do they call a Quarter Pounder in Germany?

Well, first the name was directly translated into German: Quarter Pounder=Viertelpfünder
But in the 80s the name was changed to "Hamburger Royal TS". They are still being sold under this name.
