Removing scratches from a Batmobile?

I recently got a Mego Batmobile and it turned out to be far more scratched up than I thought it was going to be.



Has anyone had any success fixing theirs? Would some fine sanding or auto scratch repair help?

I basically ruined one once trying to sand it. I have had some luck with car wax/polishing compound.
