    The Star Trek IV smack

Everytime I see the whale woman smack the guy I cringe.

It just seems weird watching woman smack guys in older movies.

It's not even to fight or defend just a way of getting attention.

Wow, look at me - i'm changing ---- 20 years ago I couldn't have cared less

If you think about it, it does seem a bit pat and sexist now as in "when women get angry or upset, they instantly resort to slapping people". But when my family and I watched it last year, it didn't leap out at any of us.

Interestingly, I just read that the slap was improvised. The Briggs actor didn't even know she was going to do it.

As far as it being sexist? Ugg. Slippery slope.

I mean, if a guy did that... would people even look at it the same way?

      No.

Why? Because a double standard? It works BOTH ways. People tend to forget that.

So, personally, I'd disregard the "That's (add your genre here)-ist" outrage angle possibility entirely.... for objectivity's sake.

I just see the slap as coming from a young, passionate, arguably overly-idealistic individual.
