That's weird. I commend the toymaker for their license selection, but I would think the appeal of this would be to integrate same scale characters with others.
I really love the Wonka. I think it is a license that really benefits from the simple, innocent Playmobile style (as much as I would admire the craftsmanship of a Hot Toys Gene Wilder, it just doesn't seem like the right fit for Willy Wonka).
And as it is something I would likely display on my desk, I like the larger size too.
Playmobil didn't license these, Funko did. It's a bizarre relationship where Funko did the licenses and is making a Playmobil branded figure. But yeah, the scale kills it.
I would prefer them smaller, but I am not too awful surprised about the upsize. The market is adults sitting them on a shelf, not kids who already have a Playmobil collection who will actually play with them.
^Maybe Playmobil wanted to keep their line "pure" too. By keeping these out of scale, they aren't compromising their long standing "no licenses" approach. Although with the gazillions of dollars Lego had made, maybe they should rethink that?
I like the Back To The Future and Willy Wonka figures. I have regular sized Playmobil (I like them better than Lego people), so I wish they scale were smaller. Too bad Gene Wilder didn't live to see an action figure made of himself.
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."
Regardless of the scale, I'm always tickled to see new WHOvian merchandise! I'll definitely be adding these to the collection in the future. Be cool to see them do all 12 (13?) Doctors, some companions, some bad guys, a TARDIS interior playset and, of course, a TARDIS.
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.
Playmobil has a huge collector community out there. It's not really a kids brand anymore than anything else is these days. They make a ton of high end sets that are clearly catered to adults.
Given how Funko operates, if this line is a success, I wouldn't be surprised if we got them in multiple scales, including regular Playmobile scale and key chain size.
