Depends upon what your trying to accomplish...Are you trying to make vehicles in your own style ( Batmobile, Spider-Car, Batgirl's Cycle, Arrowcar etc) or are you trying to make vehicles that Mego never made that they should have
(Fantasiticar, Supermobile, Robin's Cycle, Jokermobile, Catwoman's Cat-ilac, an Avengers Quinjet?)

For Playsets, your going to want to do something like the Dida Displays were...those were pretty good ideas
for different playsets/ backdrops. It is much like a folding backdrop like what is used in in tradeshows
as a table display, and you just print your graphics onto glossy paper and insert them into the backddrop.
Volia! instant Avengers Mansion, JLA Watchtower, etc.

For vehicles, you could always hit garage sales and ebay to pick up off brand barbie sized vehicles to re-custom
into mego vehicles...I used to have two of these and I used them as stand-ins for an ArrowCar and a Captain Americaar
(I had one brown, one red)

I want to make the following vehicles in my own style:
      the 1940s batmobile
      the avengers quinjet
      the 1940s batcopter
the golden age wonder woman's invisible jet
      the golden age jokermobile
      the golden age catwoman's cat-ilac
      How do I do that?

This is how I made Batmobiles and Spaceships for my Mego figures when I was a kid:

You'll need crayons, white paper, scissors (ask your parents for help with these!), Elmer's glue, and an old shoe box.

        1. Cut the paper in to four pieces to match the front, back, left, and right of the shoe box.
        2. Using the crayons, draw the front, back, left, and right of the Batmobile or Spaceship on the paper.
        3. Glue the paper to the sides of the shoe box.
        4. Place your Mego figures inside the shoe box.
        5. Have fun playing with your new vehicle!

you make them in your own style. We can't tell you how to do that. If we do then its not your own style.

The best I can tell you is to start with decent bases for the vehicles.
They should be able to comfortably seat 8inch action figures or accommodate Barbie style figures at least.
Recent cars to look at would be : (google them) Barbie's First Car, Barbie's Fab 4 Convertible, Barbie's first Ferrari, bratz vehicles, tootsie toy vehicles, plastic car 18", Plastic corvette 18"

I found that the Bratz dolls cars work great for the 8 inch megos, you can find them on ebay, and one of the vehicles is a Caddy, you would have to repaint it because I think it came in blue, but it would work great for Catwoman.

I thought I saw a black blow molded cat in a crouching position a couple Halloweens ago. If I can find it again I think it would make an amazing Catcar...

Using cardboard boxes as play sets works. It is one of the oldest Mego custom ideas of course. Depending on your level of involvement there is the old Woman’s Day article with fairly detailed plans for making whole buildings out of cardboard boxes.
