Heat-sealing vinyl with a soldering iron?

Has anyone tried this for making accessories or gloves from vinyl sheets? There's a good vid on youtube, doing straight lines, but I was wondering about irregular shapes.

I'm considering making a GI Joe-style holster, but 1/9 scale. I could super-glue the seam of course, but I like the idea of sealing it if possible.
WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.

I think there is a template for custom Gijoe holster in Gi joe Quarterly Magazine. All you have to do is shrink template to Mego scale. If heat thing doesn't work out you could sew it inside out and turn it inside right again.
