New Friday the 13th film slated for release next fall

Great interview with the creators of this film. Looks to be a period piece which I think is a brilliant idea. I think you can only reinvent the wheel so many times before you have to take these characters back to that period where they thrived the most. They should do that with Halloween too.

The formula for a successful Jason movie is soooo simple. Don't know why they haven't been able to get it right since Part 7 (although Freddy vs Jason was fun). I mean, F13 fans aren't very demanding... you just need lusty teenagers in the woods getting punished by Jason, with the signature theme music. It's really baffling that so much money is left on the table over the years, because they could be cranking these out annually for little budget, and fans would eat it up.

Halloween on the other hand, is a more difficult formula to get right.

I think Halloween might have a story more geared towards Netflix. You could maintain the same cosmetics as the movies but have the advantage of a eight or nine episode season to flush out some tremendous plot points.

Possibly. But the series took a dramatic downturn after part III. I liked Carpenter's idea to do different Halloween stories with each movie, not Michael Meyers. I think all that can be done with Michael, has been done. That series really suffers as you go on. It stops being fun, or scary, or just even just stupid but fun. The more you see of Michael (I liked him better when they called him "The Shape"), the less scary he is. The first film really worked because of technique and style. They just can't seem to go back and get that right anymore.

I can't say that I'm NOT looking forward to this, but jeez man, they're now rebooting the reboots..... Lol. Are they really that starved of ideas???

The Friday the 13th reboot has been the most successful on the horror genre lot of reboots, but I think there were allot of mixed emotions about how they handled that film. The "campers" looked like a reality show cast and the girls could not have been more...commercial... in their appearance. Not exactly the girl next door look that was more prominent in the original series. I think most people liked Jason in this, but the script and casting was bad. And the film definitely made allot of money, but it got allot of kickback from fans for it's short-sided approach. Is that possible in Friday the 13th? Apparently. They found it.

I think the Freddy Krueger character has hit the wall with the way society views his crimes. Revisiting his origin hit a nerve with people regarding violence against kids. Unfortunately we've had some horrific incidents in this country and other places in the world that were once thought unimaginable. Now that they have happened, I think it changes the way this kind of material hits people, even a character as unreal as Freddy. I think the suggestion makes people very uncomfortable, so I don't know how they bring him back.

Halloween's reboot issues are obvious and so far reaching, I think many fans have just assumed it never happened. Zombie was the LAST director who should have gotten the task of bring Myers back. His approach is such a one note, in-your-face, graphic gore and porn fest, it becomes more of an endurance contest to watch than to find a thrill in those stories. Plus he took the story and turned it on it;s head. Myers was never explained in the original series except through the speculations and paranoia of Loomis. Add in his seemingly normal surroundings and Myers was great fodder for the imagination. Zombie's Myers came from a house of repugnant and abusive souls that all but home grew that monster. This took all the mystery off of him and took away any story responsibilities for Loomis. We knew more about Myers than he did and that was dumb plotting on Zombie's part.

So I think the new direction offered in that article for Friday the 13th sounds great. It's the perfect direction to go because you can be nostalgic and take a period the fans loved and build upon those moments in those "lost" adventures. Not a bad way to revisit a monster that's been around for 36 years.

                  Couldn't agree more.
I think since this will be a period specific piece they should offer the role to Kane Hodder !!!
What a great opportunity it would be for everyone to put the true Jason back behind the mask one last time.
“When you say “It’s hard”, it actually means “I’m not strong enough to fight for it”. Stop saying its hard. Think positive!”

EXACTLY!!! That would be a great idea.

I hope Rob Zombie stays away from this because he really screwed up Halloween

Oh God no! I don't think he's anywhere on the map for this project. After he shuttered the Halloween franchise, I doubt they want him stinking up the far more successful Jason series.
