Elstree 1976 is now streaming on Netflix

Nice documentary about the bit players in Star Wars and their relation to the film. Watched it last night and some of the characters are interesting. It's funny how many of the actors are Canadians.

Watched it last night. It was good but, after thinking of it two or three times today, I didn't really come away from it with any feeling one way or the other. It seemed to be going for something existential... I don't know. I kind of wished it had been a little broader, maybe with a larger sampling of extras and bit players. I got a little tired of the same five or six faces throughout. It was a little melancholy like these things usually are. Needed more Star Wars.

I had precisely the same reaction. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it was a bit of a chore to get through. I think some more editing was needed, but this in no way made you feel good about these bit part actors. Dave Prowse reminds us how unfortunate it is that Lucasfilm has banned him from appearances. The actor who plays Gold Leader gets a little snotty about the popularity of actors who played helmeted characters. Also sad to know that the Stormtrooper actor who bumps his helmet on the doorway died last week. This is not a feel good movie.

It did have a slightly melancholy feel, but overall it was pretty fascinating and I loved all the anecdotes from the actors and extras.
