I saw this the other day and thought it looked quite good and quite true to the spirit/feel of the novel. The novel itself is probably second only to Season of Mists as my favorite Gaiman thing ever, so I was excited to see this fruition, but I don't subscribe to Starz, so I'll have to wait for it to hit a legal streaming service I do use or DVD before I see the show.

Saw the trailer for it yesterday and it's definitely something that caught my interest, so I've got the ol' DVR set to record it next Sunday night.sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.Comment

As usual, I am going to be a bit of a snob. I am a HUGE Neil Gaiman fan and I absolutely love this book.
I did feel that the base plot of the book created a fascinating universe so I would actually like to see some expansion ( the book itself isn't that long) and explore all the other possible characters that could exist. As long as they stay fairly true to form, that is.

Not for nothing, but I am from Oklahoma and a good portion of this series was shot in Ponca City, Oklahoma. The first thing I thought of was that they have a restaurant called "Megoburger" in Ponca City. Now, I've never been there, and as far as I know it could be pronounced MEG-OH-Burger instead of ME-GO-Burger, but still. Figured the connection might give the folks of this board some meaning.

I'm not sure if interesting would be a strong enough word, Sideshow...
I've not read the novel upon which it is based, but I do know Neil Gaiman has a very, very vivid imagination and I'm sure this show probably even cranked it down a notch or two. I would probably be more inclined to call it almost---psychedelic? Reminds me of the time a friend of mine and I thought we were going to see Eraserhead and instead the theater rolled a copy of Fellini's "Satyricon." As weird as Eraserhead is, Satyricon is about twenty notches over that.
I can't say that I didn't enjoy the premiere episode, but it took some minor mind adjustments. The gore at the beginning didn't bother me at all because it was, to me, very reminiscent of the use of blood by both George Romero and Sam Raimi; there is SO much of it that it's fairly easy to dismiss it via willing suspension of disbelief. Now the dude at the beginning with the arrows----ow! That's gonna leave a mark! I liked the oversized leprechaun and, yeah, you're right; I'm not going to be worshipping Bilquis anytime soon! Yikes!!!sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. Holy smokes, just saw the first episode...the Bilquis scene...holy shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii....you have been warned...lol...
Loved the show, very unique and stylized...I'd say something along the lines of Twin Peaks on steroids...
Yes, I'm hooked...sigpicComment
