Battle of the Planets Phoenix by Ceji Arbois

Ever see something vintage for the first time and just "Oh I have to have this". That happened to me last month and the Ebay Gods smiled on me that I got it within my budget (that never happens).

This is a vintage Battle of the Planets Phoenix that was produced in France in 1980 and I WOULD HAVE KILLED FOR AS A KID!

    More after the jump!

First of all this thing is like six inches long, incredibly perfect for a kid's hand.

Even though I have the missile, I have no idea how to make it fire.

The original owner of this had this as a kid and was obvious a very neat child.

I won't tell you how long it took to get this shot, please tell me you enjoy it....

I assume this toy originated in Japan but i have no idea who made it.

You of course get tiny plastic interpretations of the individual vehicles and a missile. How did this kid not lose these? I've almost lost them twice today.

Everything tucks away in the bottom, thank goodness.

It couldn't have found a better owner.

Every kid watched BoP back then. Why didn't this stuff make it to the US? Or why didn't a US toy company make their own? UGH!!!

      Gorgeous.

Omigod! That is unbelievably cool! I so love that Brian! The Phoenix will always be one of my all time favorite sci-fi ships. Nothing comes close. What a incredible score. Congrats my friend!!

Yeah, I'm getting that from everywhere today (nice to know folks are reading). I'm kind of embarrassed that I didn't notice the very obvious Popy logo on the bottom but then again, I have been getting up at dawn lately....

Had I known this existed and was available in the US...I would have been one of those kids that would have preserved this because how how special it is...

                VERY NICE

If I had some spare change, I'd be all over these Old Japanese Animation Toys (Gatchaman, Yamato, Lupin, Harlock, etc.).

                AWESOME STUFF

Glad it found the Right Home.

That is absolutely fantastic. I too would have killed for that as an 8 year old!

The lack of BOTP merchandise always bugged me as a kid.

To this day, the only vintage BOTP items I own are some of the Gold Key comics, a Whitman colouring book and the View-Master reels.

That's super cool and absolutely amazing all those little space ships didn't get lost.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I'm with everyone else in trying to understand why these weren't made here. As I've said in the past,if you weren't playing as Batman on the playground back in the day,you were playing this.

I think it was Bandai Soul of Chogokin that released a real nice version of this some years back. It costs a pretty penny now, last I looked it was going for $500 on ebay.
I am more than machine. More than man. More than a fusion of the two.
