    New Preacher TV series

Been seeing a lot of trailers and other ads for this...oddly NONE of them mention it being a DC Comics property.

It's almost like they're going out of their way to NOT mention it's DC. Very strange.

I hadn't really thought about it, but you are right. was Preacher under the vertigo banner? maybe that is why they are not mentioning DC

Yep. It's when Vertigo mattered as a way of the oddball projects that the "Superhero" DC didn't want as part of their imprint. I've been with Vertigo since it started...but Warner/DC is going to ruin that like it has the "Superhero" universe. They just fired the head of the Vertigo imprint...it's an absolute mess. If anything it would benefit DC if this show is a hit. All of the previews indicate that it will be. Premiers tonight and I will be watching. Hopefully if this does well they will bring back Constantine.

Just watched the sneak preview of the show and it looks good. One of the main difference from the comic book is Jesse will stay in the town and it seems everybody will be drawn to him (sorta like Wynonna Earp). I can understand this, it will cut the cost of location down.

I thought the first 5 issues or so of the Vertigo series was good...but it didn't keep my attention like Sandman or Hellblazer. Actually had my Preacher 1 CGC'd to sell. I knew the series was coming and these days as soon as a TV series or Movie is even sniffed the speculators go crazy. Especially for the graded ones. I've only gotten 5 books ever graded. They all will go up for sale because I personally don't want graded books in my collection. Got a 9.4 grading on the book...All I can say is Kaching! If you get a chance look at 9.8 CGC of Preacher number 1 in finished auctions. Last I saw they were getting upwards of $900+. You might want to get them graded. You can always get the reprint hardcovers or trades to read.

As for the 1st episode...I liked it. It was a little predictable at the end when he was talking to the one parishioner what he was going to actually do. Not a big fan of gore on TV but it suits the original comic book series so I will have to deal with it. I give a 8 out of 10 for the 1st episode.

The one thing that you have to remember is the episode will not follow the comic books but the idea of the story will be there.

Oh yeah...That is a given. BTW, thanks for the tip about the signs. I almost had soda coming out of my nose when I saw the one at the beginning of the show that he was trying to fix the letters on

I also enjoyed the show. I don't know anything about the comic, but so far it held my attention.

It might not be a DC property. I thought books under the Vertigo label were creator controlled, no?

enyawad71 - I Googled and found this article for more background:

So, part of it seems like the deal structure with Vertigo was different than normal DC publishing deals from the outset - but there was also a lot of corporate legal nonsense to deal with in getting this made, and DC is not involved in any way now.
