Hot Off The Work Bench, My Finished Customs!

    Hi There!
My name is Mike, I'm new to the forum but not new to Megos. I was a member of the Levy list around 20 years or so ago but sold off my collection in the early 2000's and kinda put my interest in Megos on the back burner until recently. It was the combination of a relative buying me a Dr. Zaius Christmas ornament and listening to Mego Milk's podcast that reignited the the flame earlier this year.

I really wasn't interested in replacing my sold off collection but I really became intrigued by some of the custom work that was going on out there, so I thought I'd join in the fun!

I only did two customs back in the day. One was a POTA Taylor that a list member named Phil gave me the head for under the condition that I never sell it. I still have that head, so Phil if you are out there I kept my word (I'll post a picture soon). I also did a nifty Daredevil where I cast the head and custom belt myself. A list member made up a red suit. Sadly, it was sold off during the purge (yes, there was a woman involved). Here's a picture of my first true custom.

    Daredevil

I also sold off the molds for that belt. I made the gloves out of a vinyl table cloth and a soldering iron. When I sold the figure I replaced the gloves with red Spidey hands.

The following customs were done in late March 2016 to the present. I hope you enjoy them. Feel free to ask for recipes or offer suggestions on how to improve them. Most everything that I used is readily available through eBay, websites, craft stores and even list members. Not much is original. the way I see it, I'm decorating cakes.

Fresh off the bench it's Jack Kirby's Ertigan, The Demon.

    Wildcat

    My take on Moon Knight

I went with the black costume because it matches the artwork on the box that Dengar is making for me and I wanted something different.

    Guardian

    Silver Surfer

I made the board myself using an AJ surfboard as a template. I added cord to keep him on the board to increase the play factor. I think Mego might have done it this way back in the day.

    Black Panther

    Red Skull

    Metamorpho

    Daimon Hellstrom, Son of Satan

My first love is Planet of the Apes, they were my first Megos and a big part of the best Christmas ever. So here are some POTA inspired customs.

    Apeonaut Corneilus

Beneath the Planet of the Apes Taylor

    General Ursus

    General Aldo

I also love monsters, who doesn't?
My take on Lon Chaney Jr's Wolfman

That's it for now, I am currently working on an Oliver Reed, Curse of the Werewolf and an Alpha Flight Puck. I have about 50 customs planned at the moment so keep an eye out here for updates. I have heads and recipes written down but not enough Zica bodies or time!

          Great figures--welcome back!

Excellent Metamorpho, and I like the modified Batman head for DD very much, better than using Cap.

I like the Wildcat myself. I can't wait for the box to come in the mail so I can get him on the shelf. The hands are just white FTC molded fist gloves cut down, painted white with flesh fingers. I was thinking about wrapping the hands with cloth but it didn't seem like a Mego-like solution.

I think it is a recast of a Bowen head. I picked it up on eBay a little over a month ago.

Thanks for all the kind words! It feels great to be back and Mego-ing again!

I picked up the Metamorhpho head along with the suit in a lot. The head was a complete surprise, I'm not sure of it's origin. I stripped it down and repainted it.

At the moment both Wildcat & Wolfman and nearly all the other heads I've used so far are available on eBay.
