    Blakes 7 talk

As I said on another thread, I've never seen Blakes 7 before and have been watching them on youtube.

I'm really enjoying the show and am up to season 1 episode 10

I have to admit it surprised me a few times, I still can't believe Avon is still with them --- I thought he'd turn bad and leave.

Love Callie !!! imo she's way more hot than the blonde.

One thing that struck me while watching the show's intro ... Back in the late 70's I was a huge Steve Martin fan and had all of his stand up records ... Used to listen to them over and over..
On one of the records he sings a real quick funny song, "it's impossible to put a Cadillac in your nose, it's just impossible..." .......
I never realized he sung that tune to the Blake's 7 intro theme

I caught the show in the late 1980s on YTV originally and got hooked pretty cheap.

The production values are just non existent but the story and characters are so ahead of their time.

I still say the Ronald Moore BSG series owed a lot to Blake's 7. I'm surprised it's never been remade.

The space scenes quality is very inconsistent.

In some scenes it looks like Space 1999 quality, in other's it looks like Doctor Who quality and most often it looks like a Terry Gilliam cartoon.

It's almost like 3 different production teams were all working on the show with no communication between them.

I enjoyed the show... despite the often lacklustre effects. Good characterization and a compelling story overall.
Always thought the Liberator should have flown the other way, but whatever.

I had the Liberator as a kid and flew it backwards every single time. I remember watching the show years later going "ohhhhh".

You too? I loved that show during the PBS repeats back in the 80's and 90's.

Probably because of too much Star Trek, I always thought the Liberator should be upside-down as well.

Even with the dodgy production values, wobbly sets, and let's face it, outrageously STUPID costumes, it had a more gritty feel to it than Star Trek did. The good guys didn't always win, people died, stuff blew up, and there was plenty of collateral damage on both sides.

In the end, a LOT of bad stuff went down, and we were forever left wondering what happened afterward.

Paul Darrow's Avon: A Terrible Aspect addressed a lot of that.

Blake's 7 just got better and better, IMO. To me, it really picked up speed in seasons 3-4, which I really loved, with some great character development for the veterans of the show.
I know, the FXs weren't that great, but it's a terrific group of characters, oddballs, misfits, more Snake Plissken than anything else. One of my favorite stories is when Avon needs to lessen the load of the shuttle (or it will crash), the computer says that dumping Vila's weight would suffice...and Avon seriously considers it...or doesn't he? Great stuff.
The final scene of the final episode is just epic.
