    Aurora Superman restoration WIP

Very happy with how this is turning out. First Superman kit I've ever done...I've wanted to build this kit for years.

Nice! I love those Aurora superhero kits! I had several of the mid-70s re-issue "Comic Scenes" versions back in the day, and have a complete set of the comics/instruction manuals that were included.

Beautiful paints. Which edition of the kit are you working on?

Thanks! It's the original issue with the painted box art. I wanted that one because the "S" shield is sculpted on his chest rather than a decal.

^I wondered about that; I've only had reissues, and of course the later ones had new head sculpts.
WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.

That has always been one of my favorite Superman head sculpts. Beautifully painted as always.

Do you have the nameplate too?

I can't stand that second Superman head sculpt!
Original Aurora: Embossed logo on chest/cape and nameplate for base.
Comic Scene Aurora: Embossed logos remove and no nameplate.
Monogram reissue: Same as Aurora Comic Scene.
MPC Super Powers reissue: New head sculpt.
Revell reissue: Same as MPC Super Powers.

Yep. And you're spot on in your descriptions of all re-releases. Very impressive sir.

Not anywhere near as impressive as your museum quality builds! Luv them.
I've heard different stories at different times, as to why these kits heads were redone. One, was that the molds were damaged in a train wreck. Another, was that MPC wanted to update the look of the kits to reflect the current looks in comics at the time.
Did MPC rework Robin's head along with the others, only to not release it in their Super Powers reissues? Revell's Robin head has a more Burt Ward hairstyle.

                              Thanks for the compliment!
The Comic Scenes Superman was retooled along with Batman to get rid of the out-of-date chest emblems, which were replaced with decals of the current logos. The MPC Super Powers versions went a step farther. The heads were completely resculpted to match the Kenner Super Powers toy heads.
