It will probably be someone little known who the studio wants to make into a star. Shatner had done quite a bit of work but wasn't well known; Stewart was largely a stage actor; I know nothing of the background of Mulgrew and Brooks (although I think he may have had more TV experience than the others). Jeff Hunter may have had the most experience of them all, but he didn't last long. So I expect a face that will make me say 'who's that?". Of course many of today's actors make me say that. I see them at an awards show or talk show and I have no idea who they are.

Man, the thought of Eric Dane never crossed my mind. He would be fantastic as a starship captain. Love him on "THE LAST SHIP." Fillion, as much as I love him, would likely never attempt to fill the Captain's seat in the TREK universe; too many people still regard him as Malcolm Reynolds and I don't know that he would want to bring that much baggage to an existing franchise.

Ever since The Last Ship started, I've been telling my friends Dane's character on that show is a pitch-perfect take on how to do a traditional Kirk-style starship captain on a modern Trek.
