Just scanning through this thread again to find some cool suggestions. Thanks for all the cool stuff.

Oddly, "So" was the first album that ever horrified me for being too commercial, that whole "I hate it when bands I like get big" syndrome we do when we're young.

My wife rightfully accuses me of this all the time. I'm much better now then when the Clash or Madness started getting regular play on MTV. Or when all my 80's garage bands stopped being my little secret and started being called Grunge on radio stations stealing the "alternative" label. Or when my garage/blues duos like White Stripes or Black Keys started appearing on late shows... OK, maybe I still have a bit of an issue with this.

The Iron Horse by the Sound Defects isn't totally recent but it is a hidden gem that I listen to monthly. It's a soundtrack to a movie that doesn't exist but should.

This reminded me of a similar thing a friend of mine played drums for a few years back. Pornosonic plays on a soundtrack for a movie that never existed, but, as the name suggests, its a porn movie. They even got Ron Jeremy to intro some of it.

Brazoo, thanks for some super cool suggestions from various genres. This one is my favorite. It reminds me a bit of the early 80's take from some of the psych/noise bands I used to go see play.

I fall in a YouTube hole listening to Reina del Cid whether it's her original songs or the many covers she does with either her eponymous folk/rock band or other people she knows. The guitarist she works with, Toni Lindgren, is very talented. These "kids" give this music curmudgeon a renewed faith in (some) young folks and their music.
