Does anybody recall an article in the late 70s/early 80s with instructions to build a playset for 3 3/4" figures? May be have been in Popular Mechanics.

I remember these two, Hoth and Dagobah, they were in Woman's Day.

I still want to build this. You can find copies of the article in various places on line (see my above reply) and you can also find the article and plans reprinted in a book called 'Woman's Day Best Loved Toys' on ebay from time to time.

We had both articles growing up, and tried hard to duplicate certain parts of it, never successfully, but to say this was an inspiration was an understatement. These playsets epitomized gleeful play nirvana. Loved the shot of the Dagobah swamp made of Slime. And look at the dollar value of all these vinyl caped Jawas!
I still have, and adore these articles.Comment

Has anyone here ever built any of these playsets? I believe I have the plans somewhere for all three of these, and I remember being very impressed by some of the small details, like using different shaped beads for lamps, and the beds with little cylindrical pillows. With the talent here on the forums I'm sure these could be made with some great updates, I wish I had the space and time to do it.Comment

And I just bought the only issue on ebay of the Thanksgiving issue with the Hoth and Dagobah for $8 so give me time and I will scan it in for you guys.
I already have the Women's Day big book with the plans to the Mego Super City and the Star Wars/Micronauts playset but I just bought a second copy of it tonight for $5 so that I can scan in all the Star Wars/Micronauts and see what I can put them on.Last edited by monitor_ep; Mar 18, '16, 10:00 PM.Visit my wiki site:

I think with the plans - the Hoth should be pretty straight forward to do. When I was building mountains and tunnels for my model railroad I would use a sheet of 1 or 2 inch insulation board (which is dense foam) from Home Depot (which did not flake apart) and a foam cutter (like the Zico Hot Wire Foam Sculpting Tool for Styrofoam and Polystyrene). The only issue at the time was that the foam board is blue.
I am sure one of us could make a masterpiece - luckily we have the best people on here that went out of their way to get the instructions!!!Comment
