They still can't hit the broad side of a Bantha with a blaster, maybe they'd all be better off with sabers

I think it would be much more compelling if Rey was the daughter of Han and Leia. A brother/sister conflict seems more compelling than cousins in my mind, but I'm still mourning the expanded universe of Jacen and Jaina Solo. I also felt they were kind of hitting us over the head with her being so similar to Han while they were trying to maintain/fly the Falcon, and his offer to give her a job. Her and Leia wordlessly embracing says a lot to me as well... since they are supposed to be "strangers" at that point. Maybe that was the misdirect and she is in fact the daughter of Luke.

If she is their daughter, I wouldn't blame Han and Leia trying to keep the secret from her given what happened to their son.

and from what we know about how early Jedi training begins, I do believe that at the age of 5 or whatever when Ben/Kylo went bad, she might have just begun her training already and that kicked in during her escape and lightsaber fight.

So do folks think the force sensitive woman handed Luke's lightsaber to Finn because she also sensed the Force in him as well? he seems to handle a lightsaber well, at least holding his own against kylo ren for a few exchanges.

Do you think part two will introduce a love triangle between Poe, Finn and Rey? I'm kind of on board with Finn and Rey, but maybe the conflict in their relationship might be that Rey as a Jedi in training can't devote herself to a relationship (Which is also the reason why I think Luke is not her father)

So..... The Force is not strong in Leia?

And we will never see the Han, Luke, and Leia reunited on screen. :(

I wondered too but when Finn fought his Stormtroopper 'buddy' it seems they both had some kind of staff/sword training. And Kylo seemed not fully trained, in turmoil with his light side and not in control of his emotions. All of which would affect his ability to use the force and give Finn enough of an edge to survive a small battle. He came off as a guy with a lot of power/talent and no one to hone his abilities. It was unclear if Snoke had Force powers or was just manipulative and evil.

                      I loved it.

Trailers should have footage taken from the first ten minutes only.

I know one thing can't happen if I know an event hasn't happened yet.

I'm happy to see the movie.

                      I want to learn more.

Many Return of the Jedi elements.

The victory in Return of the Jedi is lessened, but such is the ways of The Force.

There is no other good way to progress the story.

One scene was a bit Gandalf Vs. Balrog.

Modern, 2015, mannerisms seeped in a little, but I suppose EP.IV had 1970's language and stuff.

Some parts I really, really enjoyed and loved.

Only annoying part was a C3PO moment, which was during a scene- kind of like an Indy/Ravenwood moment.

                        Things that occurred to me...
Maybe I wasn't listening closely enough, but I don't remember hearing as many of the familiar John Williams Star Wars motifs in the soundtrack... I thought it was a pretty good blend of practical and CGI effects... Yes, the story was familiar but like someone else mentioned, that could be intentionally to show how fate keeps going through this cycle, trying to achieve "balance" in the force... There were some good beats in the story, nothing ground-breaking for sure, but one big miss for me was the death of (you know who...). It just didn't resonate in the emotional way that I wished it had. There was no weight to it. This character had evaded death so many times by being clever, lucky and smart. Anybody could have seen this betrayal coming and I felt like the character (especially this character) deserved a more glorified demise. Maybe the payoff worked for some, but I left feeling like it should have been much, much more.

                          Big Spoilers Below

At least it wasn't a suicide attack run.
I somewhat feel that way, but no matter what the writers create, it will always be like killing off Captain Kirk in generations. It will never seem a greater purpose.
If the situation was based on the character's skills, then the character is triumphant, but when faced with only one solution to the problem, the character can not escape it if the solution fails. Everything went in favor of the Dark Side for a moment and that was it.

It all fit together well, though.

I had a feeling that the new movie would be the new 'Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back' with some beatings and defeats, the other two films should have training and a cliffhanger for VIII and a larger victory than any of the movies in IX.
With the restoration of The Galactic Republic and new Jedi Temples.

To achieve true balance, they would need to negotiate to have Sith Temples everywhere and allow 50% of the star systems to be governed by evil dictators.

Yeah... Every Star Wars movie is basically about a prophecy about someone bringing balance to the force. I always thought Annakin was bringing balance to the force when he started killing all of the Jedi. At that point, there were way more Jedi than Sith. He brought "balance" to the force by destroying them all. In the end, there was Yoda and Obi Wan left on one side, Palpatine and Vader on the other side... Balance restored... Prophecy fulfilled! (Just not the way they thought...)

Another thought, I'd like to have known more about the state of the galaxy. Why after 30 years was the resistance(Rebels) and the First Order(Empire) still operating basically the same as they were before.
I thought it was the opposite. The First Order was a much smaller force than the Resistance, which is why they ran from them upon their arrival. The First Order big gun evened up the playing field by presumably taking out the Senate and all their support infrastructure. Leaving behind Leia and co, which was essentially a remnant that was tasked with playing clean-up around splinter groups like the First Order? Now with the seat of power/central government gone, it's the wild wild west for the next two movies.

Going to be seeing it again in an hour... hoping to pick up more that I missed last time.
