What was the appeal of New Mutants run?

I looked through the Comic covers of New Mutants and thought who bought this crap.

The series claim to fame is the first appearances of Cable and Deadpool

I had the complete run up til Liefeld ruined it. I was always a Legion fan and I still am. I think this was Marvel's attempt at a Legion type title. Didn't quite measure up though.

I was hoping for an X-Men meets Teen Titans vibe. I just couldn't get excited for the new characters.

        I liked it.

They were kids that acted like kids, instead of old people in young bodies. They made mistakes, had quarrels, made up, goofed off, and in general were very likable.

My favorites were the first team, with Cannonball, Sunspot, Karma, Wolfsbane and Mirage. The others were okay, with Magik rapidly becoming a favorits as well as Warlock, Doug Ramsey and Magma.

The others after the Asgard Adventure were too whiny, including Boom Boom and Lilah Cheney.

          I Loved the NEW MUTANTS!

          such a great comic.

Usually read it before I even made it home.

I'm gonna go make some custom figures...NOW!

The Sienkiewicz era of the New Mutants changed my life. Loved it.

My first issue of The New Mutants was the Special drawn by Art Adams. That really hooked me on the characters and I searched out the back issues. Unfortunately, the regular comic wasn't drawn by Art Adams, but as a teenager reading the comic, I did like the fact that they were a teenage superhero team that behaved more like teenagers than the Teen Titans. They were much more relatable (at least in the earlier issues). I think the title hit it's stride around the Demon Bear saga.

was also a big fan of Warlock... he really brought some laughs to the title.

I used to have a comic book crush on Doug Ramsey a.k.a. Cypher. I still have the complete run of comics. I wish they had released a real action figure based on Cypher instead of that Douglock.

I hated Douglocke. Worst screw up of a character EVER!

                    My team so far.

Tried to stick with the aesthetic Hasbro created with Kitty even though they got her wrong.

I picked up the first few issues back when it first came out, but that was about all.

Amen, brother. The Sienkiewicz run on NM was phenomenal and broke ground for a lot of new styles in superhero titles.

Nice! I never knew Sienkiewicz did artwork for any of the packaging. It's a shame the figures inside can't match the quality of the artwork.

So funny - I was just looking through this issue. Great cover - and cool book. I think Adams also did an awesome cover of the New Mutants crawling into (or out of) their graves in a cemetery. I remember picking that one up because it was so creepy.
