I watched the first episode on Halloween night and loved it even though I'm not a huge fan of the original movies. I can't wait to see more of Lucy Lawless too.

It was also a joy to see all the practical special effects on the show as well. That was always a huge part of the movies that you just can't replicate with CG creatures.

Yeah, it's always great to see practical effects. Unfortunately some bad CGI effects also raised their ugly heads, but apparently this was due to the tight shooting schedule (a TV series is much tighter than a film). They tried to do practical first, but if a particular effect wasn't working out and they were running out of time, they had to go with CGI.

Finally got a chance to catch this tonight and I was mighty tickled to see Ash back in Deadite kicking action! It's a good mix of humour and horror, with humour edging out the gore just by a bit, but then, this IS part of THE EVIL DEAD franchise so I would expect nothing less. Already have my DVR set to tape new episodes.
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

I saw Tom Savini at a convention recently, and he said the biggest reason for CGI blood effects is no clean up between shots. Like you said, it cuts down on time and probably ends up costing less.

Wow, that's something I never even thought about. Yeah, tons of time would be saved without having to clean a bunch of stage blood off actors, clothes, sets, etc.

Mimi Rogers was absolutely terrific in the second episode. She really sold the dinner table comedy with Ash by playing it so completely straight and earnest. Was pretty awesome that she was actually under prosthetics for a bunch of the stunts as shown in the behind the scenes.

I just watched the first episode last night. What a beauty. Bruce is awesome and I love Raimi' directing. Going to have to watch it again. I love how he changed the story on how he lost his hand to pickup that woman. I really want Sam to do another superhero movie.

In other Bruce Campbell news, he was perfect as Ronald Reagan on last night's episode of Fargo.

Another great episode, I liked it even better than the first one. More practical effects too and some very funny dialogue!

Watched the 2nd episode today. I loved it. Not as much as the first, of course, but it was an excellent follow-up. Did anyone check out Tales of Halloween?
One of the shorts (which has the alien) has a copy of the Evil Dead style Necronomicon on the woodshed workbench.
