^^^ The cartoon version would have been great, and 10 times better than this poc. Brad Byrd was attached to it, too.

Dear lord. I finally just watched this abomination. I'm not a hard-core fan of The Spirit like I am with Captain Marvel, but I've read several reprints and DC's recent offerings and enjoyed them a lot.
Film noir meets costumed hero isn't an idea I dismiss, and I could handle the film Spirit's healing factor, but the film itself--writing, direction-- is just almost onanistic Frank Miller self-indulgence.
How he could claim to be a friend of Eisner and churn this out is beyond me. It really saddens me that this came out after Eisner's death, after he had protected the character. That said, Macht gave it a good effort. But I can't even enjoy it as a piece of "so good it's bad" schlock. It's a piece of...something else.WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.Comment

Some creations are such a triumph of their medium that they lose what makes them great when transferred to another media. I grew up a huge fan of The Spirit and Eisner's storytelling. But this movie didn't even try to find what made Eisner's creation work so well.Comment
