Wanted Appraisal of Damaged Carded Megos/ Now loose

I started this thread in General Buzz: http://megomuseum.com/community/show...s&goto=newpost and I'm needing the figures appraised so I can send it to USPS. They only want to give me $50 and I insured them for $500. I'll submit the appraisal to USPS for a second appeal. I was asking $250 in my last appeal and valued the once MOC figures as being worth around $100 to $120 since they are now technically loose. Here are the pics:

    After:

Hopefully this will convince USPS that there was more than $50 worth of damage.

Hopefully some of you will drop me a quote or two. I only know two semi-professional dealers and they're not answering me atm. I used past auctions on mint loose figures to arrive at my estimate.

      OK, I'd say before Pengy = 150; before Batman = 150-200; after Pengy = 75; after Batman = 75-100.

Thanks! I've never seen a mint Pengy bring that much? Is it because he's type 2? I bought a mib type 1 for $45 and the box was probably a c6 due to having a price written on the back in magic marker. Pengy himself was mint and tight and the artwork was crisp and the cardboard and cellophane great. Gotta be because he's a type 2.

        Keep 'em coming!

I think that this estimate is pretty much spot on

So asking $150 to $175 from USPS should be reasonable. I really don't think a mint loose T2 Penguin is worth $75, but since that's the consensus it's what we'll go with. I always thought a loose mint Penguin was never worth more than $50. Thanks guys.

Well, I figure he's loose mint, but with a resealable card. I'd pay 75 and glue the bubble back on almost as good as new.

For your personal collection that would be fine, I would never sell a figure known to be resealed without disclosing it.

I received a letter yesterday that contained the following reason for them denying my claim:

"Payment of $50 previously made on this claim. The amount claimed exceeded the amount of coverage provided. Indemnity reflected the insured value."

So I made my final claim with the insurance # (even though a jpeg, the #, and the amount paid had already been included on the claim). I called them this morning as well, but I had trouble understanding the representative I was talking to. She was showing I had no additional insurance. I kept trying to give her the # to verify it, but she was having trouble understanding me as well. She transferred me to claims, but the automatic system would only tell me that customer service was not available when I spoke the word operator. I tried again and waited 15 minutes, got frustrated and just decided to file the appeal. I sent them a link to this discussion, uploaded some jpegs again and now I wait. This is the final appeal and I'm not sure what I should do if they deny it.

Beyond the money it is the time and aggravation that is the real issue!

If the P.O. denies your appeal, just forget it and put them up for auction on ebay, it's really not worth your
trouble to keep beating a dead horse when it comes to the P.O., as far as there concerned it was insured
your only going to keep fustrating yourself, the P.O. can suck, you know it, I know it, and they know it.

I would wait and see what happends with the appeal, but don't hold your breath, seems like there not
going to cooperate. You can try and ask for a refund from the seller, but that just means you would have
to repackage the figures to send back and here we go again with the P.O.

Putting them up on ebay might end up the way you go, or keep them.

Thanks for the suggestions. I would do that if I thought I could get all of my money back. If I were to sell them as they are I doubt I could get 50% of the original purchase price after fees. I would try to get the seller to pay for them if he had opened them and had to pay to ship them back. Since he simply refused them and didn't have to pay for return shipping, any damage that occurred would have to fall on the initial USPS shipping and insurance charges. Plus, there's no evidence of any wrong doing on his part. I might be able to get paypal to assist me, but eBay has that clause about accepting a resolution offer. Once you accept it, the case is closed and you can't open another against the seller. That's why I've been saying I should have waited to accept the offer until I had the megos back.

I think USPS just has some kind of technical glitch that's keeping them from seeing the additional insurance. The woman I talked to this morning kept insisting that I didn't have additional insurance so hopefully now that I included the insurance # in my statement they won't be able to deny that I have it.

I just checked the USPS website and they denied my second appeal. Guess who will be bypassing USPS for now on? I can't wait to see their reason for denying the appeal. I wish there were some pro bono attorneys that would be willing to jump on this.
