Need Advice to Finish Second Custom

Okay folks, I managed to get by my very first custom (Flash) and am almost finished Lex Luthor but need your advice.

His head is done, he's wearing a purple jumpsuit with green pants over top and of course purple boots. Before doing the finishing touches I am unsure how to handle the black criss-cross on his shirt as well as his high collar??

I've seen the black criss-cross drawn directly on the suit but I'd prefer to glue some kind of material onto the suit instead. Any ideas what material I could use which would be shiny and easy to work with?

As for the high collar, not even sure it's neccessary unless its done right. My sewing skills suck, but I was thinking I could cut off one of his purple pantlegs to work with. Ideas??

Talk with Jason aka Blackknight or Joe aka Thunderbolt. I think both of these fellows plus probaly a few others have done some pretty cool parts out of craft foam.

I would not draw it on the suit. I don't care for how that looks. There is a pattern in the customs pages in the museum you could follow. I would carefully cut out some thing based on that, or possibly kit-bash and modify one. You probably won't get one on the first try so be patient and go till you're happy with it.

Remember: If you draw on the suit and don't like it you just trashed the suit.

If you have any pieces of black vinyl that would probably look better and be more accurate than craft foam.

You might try using the vinyl from a black 3-ring binder. I've found it works well for Mego customs.

craft foam..i know i know..not everyone likes it..i use it a lot...works fine...you could try rubber bands..dont know how they painted, tho'..never tried them...never hurts to try, i guess...just dont try it on the body, do a test first....vinyl(beach ball...99 cents)...work great..i've recently found out how cool that they are..a pain in the arse to cut straight, tho...ok..so im not much help....

Black ribbon could be sewed or glued onto the front. You could also use some black electrical tape.

I'd go with black leather, pleather or vinyl, too.

and Spider, if you cut out patterns and tape them right to the beachball vinyl, it makes it real easy.

Thanks for all the great ideas and support. I like the binder idea the best I think. I cut a piece off of a black 3-ring binder last night and think its perfect to work with (given my limited skill level).

Now, I'm still not sure what to do about his high collar?

IMO vinyl repair tape for your car's interior works great....and leaves no need to glue it on....
