Evel Knievel Road & Trail Adventure Set

I was scrounging through an Ideal advertising book when I remembered this somewhat more sedate Evel Knievel set.

This has to be Ideal's response to Big Jim, who was pretty much the king of Camping related toys in 1975.

Turns out, this is a pretty rare set that got limited release and a sealed one probably commands much more than I've got in my wallet right now. The box is also reportedly the largest produced for the Evel Knievel series.

I don't collect Evel Knievel toys but I do sometimes like to walk by the bakery and smell the donuts if you get what i mean....

    More Daredevil stunt goodness.

I'm digging his casual denim attire. I've never seen this before.

As much as I clearly remember and loved the stunt cycle, I was really unaware of all the other things in this line. Well, I guess I remember ads in comic books for the jetcycle and funny car, but I never saw them in person.

That's a cool set. I only had the stunt cycle as well. So I guess this doesn't come with the energizer/rev-up thingee? They should have built it into the bed of the truck. How cool would it have been to launch Evel out of the back of that truck, like Reb Brown and his van?

The energizer is mentioned on the top piece although I imagine the impression that it wasn't there hurt this toy.

Knowing the kinda guy Evel was it's funny how they made him out to be somekinda modern day Daniel Boone

The pick-up has a Playmobil feel to it

Yeah, re-reading all of that, it sounds like it does come with the energizer...but the box doesn't look big enough to fit it. Weird.

They should have made an ER playset for him.
Make him a plastercast, things like that.

The winder came in pieces and had to be assembled, so it does fit in the box.

That "cigarette" is an optical illusion. It's the backpack strap. He may be checking his compass.

They did make a ramp for the Scramble Van so Evel could ride off his van.

A great piece and one I honestly don't remember (although that doesn't mean I didn't see it). The outdoor adventure was pretty much a staple of early 70's kids because that's what they were doing. I think if you look at allot of the Evel Knievel adventure figures, they were trying to broaden his appeal outside of the stuntman image. I bet this was likely one of the later releases in the series.

I still have my original beat to hell Evel Knievel stunt cycle set in my original beat to hell box. Sometimes I think I should start to collect that line, and then I look at all the stuff I already have in the basement and barely look at and I decide "Nope, not gonna go there..."

But I like the donut shop comment above. It's less fattening to just smell them than to have more junk in the trunk.

I was a huge Evel fan back in the 70's having the regular motorcycle with figure, the Skycycle, the Scramble Van, and Chopper.

At the time I never remember hearing about or seeing any of this adventure stuff --

I don't even recall ever seeing Evel figures sold separately than the vehicles.

Was all this stuff regional, or did it come out a lot later ?

Apparently it was a store exclusive. Found a site with all things Knievel on it. Not sure how accurate it is, but lots of info here.
