I have never heard of this series.

At the start of the 1980s Marvel UK attempted copying IPC's success with themed titles (e.g. Battle was a war title, Tiger a sport title, 2000 AD a SF title, etc) by releasing its own themed titles, Valour and Future Tense, both starting on the same week. While Future Tense concentrated on SF stories, Valour was fantasy themed, at least as far as it could be given it only had access to Marvel's largely superhero output. Starting on 5th November 1980 it featured Conan, Doctor Strange, Devil Dinosaur and Tales of Asgard, with Weirdworld being added in issue 13. Poor sales saw it cancelled with its 19th issue, and merged with Future Tense an issue later.

It's always cool to see comics stuff from across the pond.
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

British Marvel books from the 70's are really interesting. I personally am a fan of the Mighty World Of Marvel books. Because they were magazine sized, or close to magazine sized, they should be closer to the original 2-up art that original comic art was done in. Also, the new covers that they came up with are sometimes better than the original covers. Can't remember which issue of Back Issue it is...but there is a whole issue that was dedicated to Marvel UK. Starlin did a lot of the "New" covers for Mighty World Of Marvel. The ad in this thread with the Hulk is Starlin. I can say that I am NOT a fan of the later "Landscape" books like Titans and Super Spidey Stories. Just to cramped...artwork and storywise. I know that there are a few threads here in the comic section. One is about the beautiful posters by Lopez Espi that were advertised in the Marvel UK comics:

DC also had some interesting new art takes on their titles over in the UK:

Marvels earlier stuff can be found in books like Fantastic and a few others. The Annuals are really nice too. Gets a little expensive though if you are going to start collecting them. Trust me...I know

I thought this thread was going to be about EC's "Valor" comic book (the best of their New Direction books IMO). But man, these are all amazing! There are so many cool vintage British reprints like this that most North American comic fans have no idea about, great pics!

The Marvel UK editions could often be cool, particularly the Star Wars Weekly title which sometimes featured exclusive stories.
The 70s hardcover annuals were definitely awesome.

BTW...these Annuals have been on my radar for years. It's just so damn expensive as far as shipping goes from the UK to the US.
