    WOR? I remember it well!
Howabout "Chiller" theater? with the hand?
My dad and I used to stay up late on Saturday nites and watch all those old, bad horror movies. In fact, I remember seeing "Night of the Living Dead" for the first time as a kid with my dad and my older sister. I was petrified, but my dad was just kind of laughing, and my sister was nervously giggling, so I just kept watching, afraid but somehow feeling like it was ok to be scared!
"Horror Express" was an old fave.

Chiller Theater was classic! Sometimes the opening credits were scarier than the movie!

I was a Creature Double Feature kid, myself. I spent a lot of time at my grandparents and my grandmother & I never missed it. She would be in her recliner knitting something and I would be on the couch with a big bowl of chips and a Coke. Awesome memories.

THAT'S IT! Whoever came up with the idea of this opener was either a certifiable genius or a complete whacko.

A lot of times it was SCARIER than the movie! Especially crummy movies like "Plan 9 from Outer Space"; which I think we can all agree was a piece of poop.

I can't sit by while Ed D. Wood, Jr. gets badmouthed!
Of course it's poop, but it's legendary poop! Often "praised" as the worst movie of all time, I actually prefer his "Glen or Glenda?" for bizarre, head scratching fun! (although it's really not fun to see Bela Lugosi near his end)

Believe it or not the Chiller Hand opening was made by Rankin Bass.

The same people that made Rudolph and Bumble

Yeah, I read that on the Wiki page. I used to have nightmares about swamps with dead trees, blood, sand and hands popping out of the quicksand to grab me.

The CHILLER voice does sound like Homer Simpson though

Hmmmm...to me it seems that the timbre of the voice is a bit deeper than Homer's, but I could be wrong.
