Daily Mego Adoration: New Mego Discovery!

Here’s our Daily Mego Adoration for Tuesday April 1, 2008:New Mego Discovery: 2nd Issue ©1977a Superman Card!I am not all that surprised to finally find this specimen, but it is still incredibly exciting!Sometime around Summer 1977, Mego produced a mysterious packaging variation, presumably a “filler” piece, which appeared between the “©1976″ and “©1977b” cards. Got me! Hook, line and sinker. Of course it's actually April 2nd for me now, so I think I'm entitled to feel a little less silly than I do. But not much.

Ben - By an odd quirk of timing I am actually in L.A. today, and seriously considering coming over to smack you for this. Nicely done!

Thanks! With my sloppy Photoshop work, I didn't know if I could actually fool anyone into believing it long enough to reach the reveal.

I've discussed the potential of this packaging variation (©1977a Superman) with Brian, Dan, Rob, Mike and several other board members. The consensus seems to point toward its existence being highly likely.

With that in mind, it seemed like a good, light-hearted hoax. It was either that or the Mego-branded Aquaman "1st Issue" card. I expect both to surface some day, but I decided the ©1977a Superman was a more plausible 'discovery.'
