As I'm sure many of you know, Creepshow has always been a favorite of mine. Clearly my favorite scary movie, if not one of my all time favorite films. I just love the garish colors and over the top approach, plus the variety of fun stories. I can watch it over and over and never get tired of it.
Well, I had the good fortune to get in contact with the animator who did the cel animation framing sequences for the film. Turns out, he still had some of the original hand painted animation cels.
And now I have one.
For me, this is a holy grail, and I'm so excited to own a piece of this movie. It's from the final shot in the film (you can see it in my signature). The shot only lasts about 5 seconds. At 24 frames per second, there can't be many of these floating around. Now I get to frame it up and proudly put it on my wall.
What you're looking at is actually 3 cels. The figure, the comic book, and the hands. The holes in the bottom allow them to line them up for shooting, and they all have the identical number so they match properly.
Of course, there is only one painted background in existence, which the animator still owns himself, so he sent me a print of that to display behind the cels. So it will look something like this:
Of course, now I have to get it framed. I may get a small plaque inset in the matte for him to sign it.
Just so excited, I had to share.
