Advice on Steve Roger's civillain occupations?

I apologize in advance, because I'm pretty sure I asked this years ago.

What was Steve roger's civilian occupation in the comics during the "Mego era" ('73-'77)? I recall he was a policeman, a teacher, a freelance illustrator.

I like the artist aspect, because how can he possibly maintain a day job? It's almost like a dilettante occupation for him.

But I'm interested in what other, more informed fans think might be most appropriate for a custom SI.
WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.

He was a pitcher for the Montreal Expos. I guess he really just liked that red, white, and blue color scheme.

At one point, I think Steve was the artist for the fictional Marvel's Captain America book.
