I am really interested in a Robotech movie. I watched the series again a couple of years ago. Excellent material, technology and space combat. A few bits of weirdness too.

I know it is a cliché, but I started watching because of the cool mech designs... and became completely devoted to the show after the Roy Fokker story. Robotech had such a huge impact on me.

The rights to Robotech are so convoluted I still have my doubts that this movie will ever see the light of day. And if it does, I suspect that Hollywood will ruin this movie in every way. "Let's redesign the Veritechs." "Ooh... maybe Minmay could be played by Ke$ha." "Our target demo is people who thought Transformers was too cerebral..."

And yet... Despite knowing it will never happen, or that it will end terribly... I still get excited whenever I see one of these stories. I guess there is an eternal optimist underneath all my gruff exterior.

I love Robotech, but I fear they'll make it Transformers style, meaning tons of CG, no acting, a big cartoonish mess.
Has Shia Leboeuf been cast yet?

I feel they should cast him.
In the prologue we see him standing somewhere, he starts whining about everybody hating him, and then a massive robot foot flattens him. I also feel the robot foot should be a really solid prop, not CG.

Have you seen some of the prices on the old Comico Robotech The Macross Saga #1??!!?? The book has gone completely insane. This was a book you couldn't give away as late as 6 months ago. This is why I hate comic book speculators:

I remember seeing and loving the original Macross series from Japan. Also remember getting up on Saturday morning to watch and cringe when it became Americanized Robotech. The voices were horrible. They didn't cut out a lot from the original series...but the dubbing made it cringe worthy. I hope they can do The Macross Saga justice with this movie.

see now I watched Robotech first and loved it and found Macross very hard to watch. interesting in that it was the same footage, but hard to get vested in the story, for me anyway. Think I will go watch to some Robotech now

Just read the above. That's a little more encouraging that was initially announced.
I am more than machine. More than man. More than a fusion of the two.

Yes, Andy Muschietti is now tapped to direct, and he is quite literally the "IT Guy in Hollywood" right now. That makes me a lot more optimistic this is actually happening and may even be... dare I say... good.

(As a total aside, re-reading my comment from a couple of years ago... I feel bad that I used Kesha as my example of a vapid pop star. Poor woman has been through a lot the past couple years. Glad to see she's been able to comeback from all that.)

I see the complete series is now on Netflix and that each of the 3 story lines now has it's own intro. was that done on a recent home video release? I did not watch any episodes to see if there were any
                              changes
