    New Fantastic Four Poster

20th Century Fox released a new poster for the FF movie.

    ffposternew.jpg

It's way too dark and grim looking for my liking and could be a movie poster for any of the myriad "young adult" movies that have been in theaters lately (I kinda feel like that's the audience Fox is actually aiming for).

Movie posters should make you interested in the movie and the characters and convey some sense of what the movie is about. IMHO, this does none of those things; just a group shot of four people with their backs turned to us staring at yet ANOTHER fountain of energy either shooting UP from the ground or shooting DOWN from the sky (take your pick). It certainly doesn't say FANTASTIC FOUR to me. And, as a graphic designer and longtime FF fan, don't even get me started on that abomination of a logo!!!
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

This poster sums up both my feelings for the movie and what I perceive to be Fox's view of us fans. They basically think that we will fall in love with any crap they throw out there, regardless of story, as long as it's a comic book movie. I can see them sitting around a table, saying "Just wait 'til they get a load of this! The fans are gonna go crazy!" The poster gives no sign of the story, the actors involved, etc. But it does have a FF logo, so it's great, right? Wrong!

When the trailer came out, I had the same feeling. They took a 90 second trailer and used the Marvel scroll twice, just to make sure we knew it was a Marvel movie.

I said this after the trailer dropped:

It cracks me up how clueless they are. When "Thing" appears in the teaser, they say something like (paraphrasing), "YES, this is the part where fanboys are going to be emailing it to each other. We just broke the internet, guys!" Ummm, no! Just no!

Ummm...now that you mention it, yes, I believe he is. This just keeps getting better and better.

I guess now we'll REALLY get to see the Thing's "rocks"

Once considered the "World's Greatest Comic" is now ending it's circulation in protest of a movie adaptation that's only big news is the release of a theatrical poster... with their backs turned to us. Oh my confidence is beaming.

Come on, Hollywood! You can do it! Break the mold! Have some fun. You might be surprised how many tickets you'd sell.

Yeah...so is that really the name. Fant-four-stic? I think that's what I'll call it. They apparently want me to.

This may surprise the hell out of me, and be a great film, but I'm not holding my breath. I find it odd that the no-budget Corman movie managed to get the Thing's design more on-model than any of the big-budget versions.

And Corman's Doctor Doom which was dead on. With todays budgets, just think what they could have done.

So....instead of the Thing, we get a naked sweet potato monster. Yay.
