    Resurrecting BARON BLOOD!

One of my all time favorite Marvel villains from my favorite Captain America storyline...#253-254
Based on John Byrne's incredible rendition of the Nazi vampire!

That's creepy cool. I'm sitting in my hotel room right now reading War and Remembrance the TPB that has that storyline. That's going to be a special painting.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

Love love LOVE that Cap/Baron Blood storyline by Stern and Byrne. Best ending...EVER.

Looking good so far... but that goes without saying.

Very nice, one of my favorite villains! Love to see a trilogy- the Baron, Morbius, & the Gene Colan suave Dracula!
Can't wait to see the finished piece.

Glad you guys like it so far! I'm trying to capture that 70's-80's look when artists like Romita painted over their own pencils.
I want to very much keep the John Byrne style showing through in the final painting.

This has been a tricky piece...if you look at my reference photo, it's really only a partial panel from the comic, but it was the best closeup, so I rotated it in photoshop and roughed in the missing parts of his face/head.

That and I always use photographs for reference. Translating a line drawing into a painting is a real challenge.

Awesome. Baron Blood is one of my favorite characters in Marvel. Very underused.

It's interesting how that triangular shape repeats in the nose, the nose on the mask, and the tongue. Love the "underpainting" of the veins. Works really well for an undead vampire!

^True. I love how bat-like his mask is. In fact, I dare say Baron Blood's cowl would have made for a much more intimidating Batman.
It's ironic how little Batman's cowl actually resembles a bat.

Love the vibrant color of the purple next to the blue. Bold!
