11-Year-Old Girl Demands MoreDC Comic Female Superheroes

Rowan Hansen is an 11-year-old girl who loves comics, but she's disappointed there aren't more female superheroes.
So last month, the Champaign, Ill., fifth-grader wrote a letter to DC Comics. "I love your comics," she wrote (as excerpted by NBC's Today), "but I would love them a lot more if there were more girls."

"There are Superman and Batman movies, but not a Wonder Woman one," she noted. "You have a Flash TV show but not a Wonder Woman one. Marvel comics made a movie about a talking tree and raccoon awesome, but you haven't made a movie with Wonder Woman."

Rowan also questioned the impractical wardrobe of one of DC Comics' few female superheroes. "If Batman gets to wear armor, then why doesn't Wonder Woman get to wear armor?" she asked. "And I know that she's kind of invulnerable, but it would still be nicer if she didn't wear a bathing suit all the time."
Her father Jim posted the letter online, and it quickly went viral. On Jan. 30, DC Comics responded via Twitter.

Funny thing is, DC did some of these changes already. They covered up Power Girls "boob window" and got rid of Wonder Woman's "bathing suit", but we *****ed about those changes. At least the Wonder Woman film version has armor, she should be happy about that.

I got the impression from the letter that she wants more female heroes over into media. The only girl on that list I have seen in a movie is Supergirl. There was the Lynda Carter series and the Cathy Lee Crosby movie (made for tv) for WW, and an out of Continuity Catwoman, and that is it. Batman and Superman each have more than that by themselves, and Flash got a second series even after his first one bombed thanks to pathetic writing and costume design. Captain Cold and Mirror Master in black trenchcoats? Seriously?

Now movies are supposed to be entertainment, and an escape from reality via suspension of disbelief, so while Cyclops question to Wolverine "Would you prefer yellow spandex?" might have been funny, actually yes, we would! Kick *** this ain't, it IS a movie about a COMIC BOOK superhero and they wear spandex and bathing suits! So how about a little less 'reality' and a LOT more fun!

I take it she's never watched an episode of Teen Titans? Or Young Justice? Or Teen Titans Go! ? There's more than enough cartoons out there.

Justice League had a fun episode where it showcased female villains and heroes due to a virus making the men sick.

I think it was called Fury.

Waitaminute. Wonder Woman is in the new Superman/Batman flick. What the heck is she complaining about?

One of the problems is there is no movie out right now. yes Captain Marvel is in the works but down the road. If not for Agent Carter/Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. you would have two main superheroines (Black Widow & Gamora) in there released movies and one minor (Lady Sif).

While DC Movies have Wonder Woman in a minor role in Batman vs. Superman. While in the TV Universe there are a few:

Black Canary 1 & 2
Huntress

That it. Now soon we will have Supergirl but that isn't until the fall.

Even in the animated world we only have:

Raven (silly version)
Starfire (silly version)
White Tiger
Dagger
She-Hulk
Black Widow

That is not alot of female superheroes out there. In Japan with the Marvel Disk Wars: The Avengers you have:
