    Never Been Slimed

I'm currently working on the 1977 Mattel Catalog and came across the introduction blurb for Slime, which surprised me at how small the picture was. Slime was a pretty big deal, everyone I knew was aware of it and wanted it.
My parents relented on the purchase of said Slime, they most likely saw it as a waste of money that would end up on the rainbow coloured berber in my room or attached to the fuzzy wall paper that my mother was so fond of (most of the walls in my house had a beard like G.I. Joe)
Eventually I did obtain some knock off Slime out a Miracle Mart vending machine much to my parents chagrin, I think it ended up staining the inner pocket of my Leaf's Jacket.....

I loved this stuff! I remember owning a tub of "Slime with Worms" for about one day before my mum saw it and chucked it.

There was a nice shrink-wrap sealed tub of the original (shown above) on Ebay last year, I think it went for $300-$350 IIRC.

    One for the wish-list.

I do think I had this slime, but I mostly had the knock-off vending machine variety you mention Brian. It left a greasy film on whatever it touched. My Mom was really tolerant, but even she hated slime.

Mattel worked it into the MOTU line later on. Good oozy fun!

I saved a pic, it went for US$283 last year.

I remember the smell well too, apparently that is one of the best memory triggers.

          Cheers,

For whatever reason, the look on the kid on the far right reminds me of Nick Simmons. I can just picture Nick trying to "slime" Gene.

All I had was just the plain old, original Slime and it was a blast. I think they even came out with a Slime game.

My grandma only yelled at me once when I was a kid, and it was for getting slime (and rubber worms) all over her carpet. I can't believe these sell for that kinda money though! with all the knock-off slime out there? And Brian, I was gonna make a comment about your Leafs coat, but that's just too easy.

I loved that stuff, I harrassed my parents until they relented, then dropped it in the dirt! It wasnt the same after that. I remember having something called Mud (at least I think it was) too. It was usually thrown up against walls and you had to keep it moist so it would stick.

                    Does anyone else remember this?

The one for he-man just sold for $47, aren't you really just paying for the container and label? you can make this stuff at home.
                      It is super cool though.
                      And I do want some.
Geez! now add a can of slime to the things I need to buy.

I had the gumball machine version too, but someone else I knew had the one w/ worms in it. I make my own version of this w/ my kids sometimes, w/ the recipe for GAK and some Creepy Crawler bugs in it! It's fun!

What is the recipe for slime? My kids would go crazy over that, but I had assumed it was a thing of the past.
                          It's all good!

I loved the stuff and the Garbage can was definitely cool. I suspect I displayed it with my Megos, but it wasn't quite in scale.

I had slime, and slime with worms too, to my sisters' disgust
