I guess I was about 7 when I saw it in the theatre---saw it once or twice
    courtesy of my parents.

I have to mention, they saw it first without me...and then I remember getting the impression that because of all the hype they felt "obligated" to take ME--
In fact, they kinda hyped it to me too before I went.

I remember thinking "Geez, it's only a movie"...what's so special about it?

I liked it, yeah. (Now it's my favorite movie----go figure.)

But, honestly, back then I was more interested in the
STAR WARS action figures all the kids were getting.....again, go figure!

I was 7 when I went to see it and for years I didn't connect the 2 parts of the movie. I remember a really boring desert part and then a space movie (like one of those old double features). I was so bored during the Tatooine part that my dad threatened to take me home (even though he wouldn't have missed a single minute of it). We were there more as an excuse for him to watch it, but as soon as I was older and Empire came out I was hooked.

Actually, when I first seen Star Wars .... I thought the whole movie was boring.

The only reason I seen it 7 times was EVERYBODY kept inviting me to go with them to see it ... and me, never liking to refuse a feebee, took them all up on it

Yes, when it was released here in Belgium in december 1977. It often took six months for movies to wing their way over here.
I was SW crazy, I went every week, taking friends (to show them this masterpiece), or just by myself. I went about 20 times in 1977-78, I guess.
I was 12 years old, a good age to be starstruck.

Empire I saw in the Leicester Square Odeon in London, during opening week. Man, that theatre was huge!

Jedi I saw in Johannesburg, South-Africa, months before it opened here in Belgium. Man, I held my friends hostage, threatening to "spill the beans" about what would happen in part three.

So you see, I planned my vacations carefully around SW!!!!!

I seen Empire only once, and it was at a drive-in.

Drive-in's are cool, but not for space movies.

It's usually not dark enough to see the space scenes good.

I saw it in 77. It hit in May. I had 3 months. I saw it in Aug on my 10th birthday.
I saw it 2 or 3 times before the first rerelease for Empire.

If you count rereleases for empire and jedi - I saw it 4 or 5 times.

It seemed like more though because I read the novel a couple times, read the marvel comics a few dozen times, read the Story of Star Wars book many times, listened to the LP The Story of Star Wars a hundred times, Collected and read the cards, etc etc etc

PS T1K How does a 12 y/o boy find Star Wars boring? Perhaps you could articulate why?

I saw Star Wars once was I was 11 back in '77. I had to talk my mom into taking me, b/c she really doesn't like Sci-Fi.

"12" seems to be the "magic age" brought up in this thread.

Like Brue, I'd also surmise that 12 is a great age for STAR WARS---
still young enough to feel the "magic"---but old enough to really grasp
the plot ideas in a more mature way.

It was closer to RETURN OF THE JEDI time when I was 12---
I was so stoked for THAT movie's premiere I thought I was gonna freak out.

The "What does Jabba look/act like" aspect really got me excited.

When I finally saw ROTJ, I was quite pleasantly surprised that
BOBA FETT "hung out" with Jabba after he delivered Han.

For me, it was the scenes on the Star Destroyer.
Trash compactor, Obi sneaking around, R2 and CP0 in that room --- etc.
It seems like the Deathstar scenes went on forever.

I saw it in the theater in 77. I was 12 at the time.

I must have seen that movie over a 100 times in the theater. Of course my best friends dad at the time was the manager of the theater and I got in free most of the time.

I thought that the SPECIAL EDITION movie apperance back in the 90s
was a cool opportunity for all of us.

I know it wasn't like experiencing it as child, but it was cool to see it back
                            in theatres again.

I made sure to go opening day on all three of them. It helped make up for not appreciating it in 77.
