I watched the finale of season 7 last night and it definitely needed to. It had really ran dry direction wise.

Yeah, they finished it. But you said watched the series finale (it only ran seven seasons) and should already know this. No outright spoilers, but the graveyard scene pretty much showed the series was experiencing the True Death -- and then those following scenes zoomed forward in time (ala Six Feet Under) to show us what they wanted us to know about the True Blood Universe, just so fans don't ask "...but what about this or that character?"
Done.
I think it ran out of steam in Season Six, but they actually did a reasonable job amping up the story to eke out one more season -- but this required squeezing every possible story thread. -
Can't help but feel everything that was working with this show started to fade in the middle… and completely broke down after Alan Ball strayed himself a couple seasons ago.
For me the only saving grace was the championing of Eric and Pam; they deserve all the success they worked so hard for.Comment

This was "the wife's show" up until around the fairies showed up and Once Upon a Time took it's place.
Haven't really watched it since, but I suspect I'm in for some binge watching at some point.
Luckily I love staring at the full Anna PaquinComment

I faithfully watched the entire series, but sadly, and frustratingly, the last two seasons were horrible, so in a way, I'm glad it ended.
This final series ending episode, I just wanted everyone nuked to smithereens, that's how lame it was.sigpicComment
