I would love to see Mysterio in a Spider-man movie if they can be faithful to the interpretation. Unfortunately Webb has not been good at translating villians.

      Well, that was really weird.

I've liked the two Webb films overall, despite some things about them I don't care for. I can't say that emphasizing Peter's father did much for me. I always feel like that was just the main hook to differentiate these films from the Raimi series.

It seems like they are borrowing a the element of Peter's father from the Ultimate Universe incarnation.

Unfortunately, that version got bogged down in continuity issues and eventually got sucked into the redux Ultimate Close Saga. The way that played out wouldn't serve the Amazing film version too well IMHO.

I'm rooting for either Chameleon or Mysterio.

^I'm wondering if they'll even go there now. Since they are going to have to re-introduce Mary Jane in the actual film series, they may just let Richard Parker go...well, him being alive anyway.

Picked up the Blu Ray yesterday and really liked the transfer to disc. The picture looks excellent. I also watched some of the special features with the director and screen writers. I was happy to know my thinking was on the same page with their intent. Yes, they could have written the key villains a little better, but they were not really chasing after a hero/villain match up in this installment. It was a philosophical piece from start to finish. I like it for thinking outside the box and daring to be different for those reasons. For me, it brought dignity to that classic storyline where the relevance was most needed.

I loved all the little scenes. Him being Spider-man, his interactions with Gwen or Aunt May.They were all terrific. It had that feel where Peter has a million things all happening in his life at once that I remember from the old Web of Spider-man series I read as a kid.
When he saved that little boy from the bullies, I was in tears.
What I felt was weak about the movie was pretty much anything to do with the bad guys.
You could say this movie is very love/hate for me. So much good and yet so much bad.

I found it just made me tired. Some bright points like Carl mentioned but way too much camp in this one.

It felt like Batman Forever with Jamie Fox sitting in for Jim Carrey.

^That. Yes, Electro was very much the Edward Nigma type. I agree the villain parts were the weakest. Garfield is great as Spidey AND Peter, and him and Stone as Gwen have such great chemistry. That guy in the prison was so campy he was straight out of Shcumacher's Bat-films.

Overall, I enjoyed it, despite the villain stuff...much like Batman Forever.

I was going to mention Dr. GermanStereotype.

They chose good actors for the main cast, I'm unclear as to why they ground the heroes and just let the villains walk out of "Challenge of the Superfriends"?

Loved both Garfield and Stone...what a great on screen couple they made...unfortunately...that all ended in AS 2.

Garfield's Spidey is terrific as well...both in mannerisms and costume...best ever on film.

The villains were all lame though. Electro was bland, boring, and uninteresting. Rhino was a complete and utter joke. Most disappointing was the Green Goblin. He's such an iconic figure, one of the all time top villains, Spidey's Joker, no doubt. AS 2 Gobby was more Leprechaun than Goblin. Mind you, a punk version of a Leprechaun at that. The only thing that saved the character from complete lameness...was the portrayal of Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn...that was in fact...dead on.

I also don't like that Oscorp is the main villain factory now. Come on man, lol.

the whole movie should have been a deleted scene.

It's astonishing the caliber of actors... OSCAR winners/nominees like Jamie Foxx, Chris Cooper, and Paul Giamati, and all they do is chew scenery.

I think it's very telling that they took a chance on the director of 500 days of summer... all the relationship stuff works amazing.

Here is hoping Cooper is back for the third one (if/when)... although I just kind of had a scary thought... CLONE SAGA! Which would bring back Emma Stone, and Chris Cooper potentially. Given all the genetic experimentation that has been driving the background plot, this might be where this has been leading up to. Especially with the deleted scene. In Ultimate Spider-man (and even in the Clone Saga/Ben Reilly arc of the 616), they have brought back his father, but he's always been a clone.

Toby Maguire can play an aged Spidey clone. Now THAT is stunt casting.

The parents story arc is just something that really doesn't resonate with me, it felt like a cheap trick in the comics and it doesn't work here IMO.
