    AFA plastic case question

I have a Mego figure in package that has been graded and was thinking about removing him from the case. I purchased him that way and don't give a hill of beans about the grading.
I was wondering how hard it is to get the case opened if anyone has done this? Does it open from the bottom and is it just glued together? I could just smash it but defintitely don't want to damge the figure.

I just opened one myself...I just laid it on my concrete garage floor and tapped the bottom corners lightly a few times with a hammer. It cracked right open. Somewhere in the night, I heard a nerd cry...

Maybe that, and use a chisel at one of the weld points. Use the Force!

I was about to inquire as well... so has anyone done this and preserved the case?

Imagine the nerd rage felt over on the various Star Wars boards.

It would be so funny to post a video of cracking open a AFA case of a carded star wars figure and then ripping the card open and "playing" with the figure!

They would seriously flip. A whole bunch of guys over on Rebelscum got really ticked off when a guy posted that he was considering pulling a figure off of a beater card. Like it should go to someone who "cared" as opposed to giving someone pleasure. I can't fathom this attitude about old toys, regardless of their supposed worth.

LOL...I just posted the same thing earlier. I'm collecting all the original Kenner figures in those sealed baggies. Once I get about 50 or so I think I'll open them all on video and post it. I'm sure there will be massive coronaries.

Come to think of it...if you were careful, you could "fake" opening some MINT vintage figures using old figures and those new vintage style cardbacks...OMG that would be hilarious. Those SW freaks would be passing out.

HAHAHA! Love it, open 'em up!

I've always wondered about the long term storage issues with sealing toys up in non-breathable acrylic. As I work with fine art and objects, we always try to be aware of proper archival approaches to storage and display. Chemical reactions and gases emanating from the object, the variations of light exposure, temperature and humidity, and handling considerations are always at play with paper and packaging, and there's a whole set of special modern issues with industrial plastics and petroleum-based materials.

Does AFA address these issues on any level in their process or is your toy left to rot in it's own degradation in the near future if you don't bust them out?
