    Mattel to Castaway conversion?

anyone tried this yet? The forearms aren't compatible as I hoped. So I am hesitant about trying a headswap.

no one has tried this? I'd hate to bust open a mattel body to discover that the head is incompatible too.

      Just my two cents.
I don't really consider the heads compatible seeing how there is no "proper" way to get a Mattel head off. It doesn't have a typical neck plug. If you don't mind ripping the Mattel head off and making a proper neck plug, then the conversion should work.

As for the hands, I haven't tried putting the Mattel onto the Type S yet. But they are a pain to get out of the Mattel forearm. The Typical hot water method worked for me.

The forearms do not match up to Type S I have already tried that. maybe with some Dremel work. The Matty head does have a plug, You have to bust open the body to get the head off, which I will do if I know it will fit.

The Mattel heads are compatible with the Type S body. I put a Sinestro head on one and it fit perfectly.

Not a true statement Sean. I have taken many mattel heads off. Microwave some water and let the head/shoulders sit in it for some time then twist/pull. I've only torn one.

You beat me to it. The longer the hot soak, the better the results.

Will the long hot soaking soften that plastic disc glued to the neck plug or will it soften the glue enough to release the plastic piece from the neck plug? That plastic disc on my Flash figure is what caused the neck plug to tear.

I just did the boil and pop method mentioned above for a head that had 3/4 of the neck plug torn, and I managed to get it off without tearing the neck plug any further or damaging the body.

Yes, the plastic plug thing stayed with the body. I then pulled that out with some needle nose pliers and tossed it.

I always just destroyed the body and took the head off easy-peasy. Then I'd soak the head to loosen the glue and take the disc right out.

Agreed,...I do the same thing. It's the easiest and fastest way for me to get the Mattel head off without damaging it. I also use the same technique with pressure pliers (head pops right off). See pics below......

Then after, i put the Mattel Green Arrow head on different, more articulated body.

I've removed a few Mettal heads to cast and replaced them with no problem by using the boiling water method with the exception that I use a small screwdriver like the ones you'd use on eyeglass screws to pry out one side of the neck plug and yes the more you heat the head the more it will soften the glue.

Mattel heads have a neck plug that should be compatible with any body that you'd use a Mego head on.

Lol That 's what I've done as well--I didn't plan on using the Matty body anyway.

                              It's a shame the forearms/hands won't swap, though.
