    LJN TV Superstars 1983

LJN toys had a long tradition of picking up cool cop shows like SWAT and The Rookies and that tradition carried on in the 1983 catalog where they hoped to continue for toy maker Mego (who ahd just filed for bankruptcy) left off by continuing the CHiPs line.

Also offered this year was Magnum PI using what appears to be a retooled Mego Dukes of Hazzard body. While I've never seen any LJN branded chips figures, the Magnum set is now a sought after collectible. The carded figure has never been seen on the collectors market.

That CHiPs cycle looks like a mini Evel Knievel.

Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic

I remember seriously passing by the Magnum car and figure set about 50 times at Howard's. I couldn't decide if I wanted it or not. It was a Thursday night staple in our home, mostly because of my Mom's appreciation for Tom Selleck.

I was disappointed that there weren't any Rick, TC or Higgins figures. So I passed. I was a weird kid.

Those Chips motorcycles are so cute and I really like that Magnum and car...have never seen it before. That's a pretty good likeness for the scale.

Is the CHiPs motorcycle made from the same tooling as the Mego version? I have the Mego version, but have never removed it from the box.

I thought the A-Team was Galoob? I never saw the Magnum I was too wrapped up in GiJoe and Star Wars at that point, I did have all the chips stuff I loved Chips.

That Magnum set is awesome! Plus the figure could easily double for Burt Reynolds.

I remember seeing the Magnum set in the Sears Wishbook but never in stores. I do have to wonder about Dan Magnum, as has already been pointed out. I personally never got into CHiPs--wasn't 1983 about the end of its popularity, or do I misremember?

That's Glasslite who made the South American A Team, TJ Hooker and MCGuyver figures.

Magnum PI figure and car? I didn't realize these were made. I'm definitely in the market for one.
